About
Welcome to Focus Action Success for Entrepreneurs!
My name is Linda Walker and I’m a “serial entrepreneur.” In my various businesses over the years, I’ve proven myself as a trainer, speaker and as a business and life coach. My life as a serial entrepreneur began as early as the age of seven. Every summer I’d organize fairs and put on shows that I’d charge a penny each to the neighborhood kids to watch, and I’d sell lemonade. Never satisfied with playing with dolls, in my favorite games I was always running one business or another.
My working class family did little to encourage my entrepreneurial urges, and I was always pushed to get a job, at least until I met Duane, my husband, a true entrepreneurial spirit. Fueled by his passion for business, I began studying successful entrepreneurs and obtained my business administration degree. I launched several businesses including a retail store, business consulting and, of course, coaching, which I interspersed with jobs in sales, project management and teaching business administration and entrepreneurship.
Teaching, consulting and coaching were my most rewarding experiences. I love to work with entrepreneurs who break the rules and blaze their own trail. Their passionate, us-against-world attitude was exciting. However, when I first started, I noticed that some “had it together,” but even with brilliant ideas, boundless energy and a world-changing vision, only a gifted few could clear away the fog, focus and deliver in the crunch. Eventually most businesses imploded.
Though they were extremely creative, their numerous (often-brilliant) ideas distracted these entrepreneurs constantly and they struggled to stay focused long enough to see a project through to fruition. Their truly inspiring vision often did not become reality as procrastination, lack of focus and clarity and problems with productivity impeded their efforts in taking action.
Around this time, on what seemed to be an unrelated tangent, I learned that my youngest daughter had Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, or ADHD. Duane and I learned everything we could about it and soon realized that Duane also had ADHD. We discovered that many of the traits that made him entrepreneurial were also ADHD traits.
Today, this is less surprising as we have learned that many very successful entrepreneurs, including Richard Branson (Virgin Industries), Paul Orfalea (Kinkos), David Neeleman (Jet Blue Airlines), Than Merrill (Flip This House), Donny Deutsch (The Big Idea) and Seth Godin (marketing guru and author) have ADHD or many of the traits.
While some people are suited to life as a “farmer” (or accountant, manager or clerk), a smaller number are more at ease as a nomadic “rebel” (rock star, artist or entrepreneur). Rebels think differently. Their brain works differently and activates with passion. The strategies, tools and techniques used by most people just couldn’t work for many entrepreneurs, and I saw first hand the struggles Duane was having when trying to use traditional approaches to time management, organization and follow-through.
We sought help for Duane to deal with his ADHD symptoms, and what I soon discovered was that strategies that help ADHDers with focus, productivity, procrastination, and organizing, also worked with my clients, entrepreneurs who struggle with these same issues. This led me to seek specialized training as an ADHD Coach, and I’ve been using ADHD-friendly strategies to help entrepreneurs overcome these obstacles and succeed in business and in life since 2005.
Working with entrepreneurs like you to help you advance to the next level is truly my passion. Entrepreneurs inspire me, and my hope is that I can return the favour by providing you with articles and programs that inspire, motivate and energize you to move forward.
